An Introduction to Brain and Behavior Bryan Kolb Ian Q Whishaw G Campbell Teskey Books Reviews
- So here's another book I rented which approx. $42 plus tax, the book is in good condition except with some dent (see picture attached)
This is a fifth edition An introduction to Brain and Behavior used (Kolb...) used for a PSYC&200 class for a community college I'm attending. The price for a new book like this in the school is almost $200 (used at $165) so you can see the savings there. I am not sure if there are inserts/supplements that you must purchase with this book, that would depend on your professor but this does not include that. Honestly with the way the prices are racking at this rate, rent-a-book would be your best bet to save tons of money while in college. - We used this book for our biological bases class taught by a neuroscientist. The chapters were easy to understand but also very lengthy and detailed. Our professor didn't know why the authors also wrote so much about animals in chapters (comparing faculties to humans'), but I thought it was interesting.
- At first, it really takes some time to get used to the text, but once you get to about Chapter 4, you really get an idea for the setup and the authors are great at explaining these neuroscience concepts. I don't typically care for the detailed, unnecessary aspects of science, but this text keeps me interested without confusing me.
- This was a required text for a psychology course on brain and behavior (a/k/a physiological psychology). I don't know if it was the instructor or the book or both, but this text was not one of my favorites in college. The chapters are too long, and talk about being verbose...the points in each chapter should be more concise and to the point. Overall, not the best text, but if you like dry reading this book is for you. I ended up getting an "A" in the course, but I believe that's only because I was a senior nursing student at the time and already had a solid foundation in brain anatomy and physiology and human behavior.
- I'm a Psyc major and this book is all about the neurobiology of the brain. Not an easy read. Lots of vocabulary and lots of info in packed in its pages. But if your interested in neuropsych or biopsyc and you're a geeking A student, you'll like this book. Very well written. The copyright is 2014 and its the first I've seen a text book on the store shelves before the copyright date and the companion web site isn't up and running yet.
- Great cheaper alternative to hardcover binds. In my opinion, it's actually better because I get to put in pages of notes in between chapters and lessons. No need to carry extra notebooks or go back and forth notes and textbook when studying, all you need to do is slip your loose note pages in between the loose text inside a 3 ring binder.
- This book is fantastic and comprehensive. The author does an amazing job explaining the intricacies of the brain and how it effects behavior. It was a required book for school, but one you'll keep as it will remain relevant.
- As a psychology major I have seen my fair share of psychology textbooks but this one is by far the best. It's great at breaking down topics and giving good examples. Definitely recommend getting this textbook.
