"I had gotten an earlier edition of this book five years ago when and it was extremely helpful, so when I started to job search I went to this one automatically. I was specifically hoping to get up to date advice on resume writing since I was in the process of updating mine. Info on that pretty much summed up as "the trend is moving away from traditional resumes". Good to know but not helpful in the way I had hoped it would be. Being in a more traditional field that still is very much into resumes, I ended up using an online template service to get a feel for the newer formats and phrasing supplemented by the few tips that were in the book.

As a manual for new grads or people re-evaluating their profession I think this is still an incredibly valuable resource, I just didn't find it as helpful for my particular situation."

What Color Is Your Parachute? 2019 A Practical Manual for JobHunters and CareerChangers Richard N Bolles 9780399581687 Books Reviews

  • I love this book. After 16 yrs in the military, I still couldn't figure out exactly what type of job I might pursue. I didn't want to fall into the traditional post-military job routine. I know guys who have retired after their 20 years and then go to work 1 week after retirement, working in almost the same field they were in their whole careers! Why? For the ease for most of us. Having to figure out what you may WANT to do after you have been doing something not in your preferred field for so long can be difficult and stressful. This book is perfect for applying some solid, critical thought process to figure out what job will really be best for you. I do mean best for you; mind, body, spirit, etc. This book doesn't just get you to chase the almighty dollar. I sacrificed a higher paying, higher stress job for the job I chose to apply for based off of one pass through this book. I've never looked back. I couldn't be happier; I'm doing something I ENJOY doing and am getting paid what I want to get paid.

MILITARY - buy and read this book. It gives you the tools you need in order to apply logic and processed thought into a much tighter job search.

MILITARY LEADERS - gift this book to your soldiers, sailors, marines, etc., that are getting out. Give it to them early enough for them to work through the book and then follow-up and help them develop a plan. I can't think of a better investment for a future civilian.
  • I had gotten an earlier edition of this book five years ago when and it was extremely helpful, so when I started to job search I went to this one automatically.

As a manual for new grads or people re-evaluating their profession I think this is still an incredibly valuable resource, I just didn't find it as helpful for my particular situation.
  • Hands down the best career / job hunting / personal development book I've ever read.

I had been considering a career change for a little over a year, but was still feeling a bit lost on what to transition into and where to go despite lots of soul searching and researching on my own. I picked up this book due to the high recommendations, and it has been an absolutely wonderful source of information and clarity for me.

The job hunting tips in the first section of the book are brilliant. The author writes in a very tangible way and provides techniques and practices that readers can start using right away. He also pays very specific attention to the present time, and what works right now, and what doesn't work. The job market is dynamic, and he understands that and abridges the book every year with updates information to reflect that. Since reading through the author's job hunter tips in the first section, I've felt like I've had a personal revelation with how I approach jobs and interviews, and I feel so much more confident and effective with my job hunting skills than ever before. (And to be honest, I was pretty confident before).

The next section of the book contains the infamous "Flower Exercise", an extensive 7 petal (7 exercises) exercise that lets the reader figure out exactly what it is they want to do with their lives, and what they want out of their jobs. Exercises include topics such as "What are my Transferable Skills?", "What is my Preferred Working Environment", to even "What is my Mission in my Life". There's also exercises to determine other aspects as your favorite interests, what kind of salary you need to survive (with a comprehensive budget chart), and the type of people you want to work with. It covers all the aspects of what is the perfect career path or job for you, understanding that aspects such as the work environment and the people you work with are just as important (to complete job happiness) as the job responsibilities and salary! The exercises are not for the faint of heart though, and most exercises are going to require a few hours of your time working on them. One exercise involves writing 7 short stories, then analyzing those stories for clues about your personality, interests, and skills. I think it probably took me around 30 hours to complete all the exercises, maybe even more, but it was definitely worth it in the end. I was able to accurately identify my perfect careers, down to the smallest of details. That is priceless.

The last sections of the book contain great information on changing careers, starting a business, dealing with handicaps, and other miscellaneous information. Once again, absolutely wonderful information here and it's worth reading even if it doesn't apply to you. There's also some bonus sections at the end that provide even further resources should you need additional help. Through and through, this book is the ONE to get for any professional individual, whether you're looking for a job or not. I had spent tons of time researching job information and soul searching on my own, paid to go to expensive career coaches, and sought advice from friends and family advice, but this book has let me make more progress in the short time it took to read and complete it then the year and a half I spent trying to learn through other methods.

Save your money, save your time, pick up this book and prepare to be amazed at what you read!
  • A lot of good advice for job seekers. The author does not focus on a single group, such as new college grads, inexperienced workers, career changers, etc. Each chapter provides something for everyone. He strongly emphasizes the thorough and proper use of social media (LinkedIn, Facebook and any website where potential employers can learn about you). Everyone should read this chapter and take his advice seriously. The chapters that focused on more spiritual advise were not useful to me, but might be valuable to other readers.
I found a lot of valuable information in the book and also got validation of some of the tactics I had already been using. Job hunting is time-consuming and expensive. The $15 or so that you will pay for this book is well worth it.

The Saint Paddy Promise A Cozy Mystery A Tess and Tilly Cozy Mystery Book 6 edition by Kathi Daley Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

  • The Saint Paddy’s Promise is the sixth in Kathi Daley’s Tess and Tilly Cozy Mystery series. The smooth writing style flows at a steady pace, the characters are well rounded and affable, and the storyline well plotted and interesting. As with all her books, Ms. Daley has provided readers with a clean, fun read, with caring and compassionate characters, an intriguing mystery to try to solve, and adorable dogs and cats. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading well-crafted cozy mysteries.

Tess Thomas works for the United States Postal Service and enjoys delivering the mail and visiting with the town’s residents and business owners on her route in the small community of White Eagle, Montana. In addition to being a mail carrier, Tess is an animal shelter volunteer and works closely with Brady Baker, the local veterinarian and shelter owner, to train and place animals with people who are a perfect match for them. Tess's brother, Mike, is a member of the White Eagle Police Department and is engaged to her best friend, Bree Price, the owner of the local bookstore, Book Boutique. Her mom and aunt co-own Sisters’ Diner. Her boyfriend, Tony Marconi, who is extremely skilled at locating information and has contacts around the world, is trying to help Tess solve the mystery surrounding her father who reportedly died in an accident when she was a teenager, but who they believe may still be alive.

Bree swore she wouldn’t turn into a Bridezilla, but as her June wedding day approaches and things aren’t going as she hoped, she’s driving Tess a little crazy. Tess is determined to be the best maid of honor and offers workable alternatives each time a problem arises. After working with Brady and the shelter dogs, Tess and her dog, Tilly, meet Jennifer Anne Claremont and her grandmother who are sitting on a park bench. After introducing themselves and chatting for a few minutes, Jennifer explained that her grandmother has made the trip to White Eagle on March 17 for the past sixty years. Intrigued, Tess asks why and Jennifer shares her grandmother’s love story Elizabeth Bradford met Patrick O’Malley, and they fell in love but knew their families wouldn’t approve of their relationship. Patrick went back east to take care of some business and personal matters, promising to return on St. Patrick’s Day, and they agreed to meet at the bench in the park, but he never returned. When Jennifer is done, Tess is so moved that she volunteered Tony to try to find Patrick or at least figure out why he never returned. Tony, who has a facial recognition program that alerts him of possible sightings of Tess’s father, receives an image of a man he believes to be her dad at a truck stop in Billings, Montana. The news is exciting because this is the second time a real-time hit has been received and the first time it’s been in the US, but when two men claiming to be CIA agents arrive at Tony’s home looking for her dad, they become concerned. Tess not only struggles to try to decide if she should share the sighting with Mike but also if they should continue their search and possibly confront him or let it go. When Brick Brannigan, a local bar owner, is found murdered in his bar, Tess knows Mike wants her to stay away from the investigation, but Brick was a friend, and she just can’t stand back and do nothing even though she tells Tony she’d mind her own business this time.
  • Congratulations on the release of your 100th book! Exciting accomplishment…

Mystery and murder seems to have been delivered with first class postage! The mystery of true love has torn at Tess’s heart. Sixty years ago two people met, fell in love, promised to marry, and agreed to meet up on on St. Patrick’s Day to run away and start a new life together. However, the young man never returned, and for the last sixty years, now Nana, has made her annual St. Paddy pilgrimage hoping against hope he’d finally return. The murder has shocked residents of White Eagle. Brick Brannigan, owner the local bar, has been found…victim of a violent crime. Rumors fly about criminal activity and bad employees, but the curious clues of packages, letters, and and his interest in DNA results stump both the authorities and amateur sleuths.

Tess and Tilly Mystery, a favorite Kathi Daley series, and this sixth book is very engaging and hard to put down with more than one mystery, entertaining characters, close relationships, and several “fur” friends. Kathi’s writing style uses a first-person narrative from Tess’s perspective sharing her inner thought, laying out the clues, suggesting scenarios, and devising strategies to uncover the mystery. The realistic banter illustrates well the tone, emotion, and character personalities. And since no one investigates 24/7, Kathi always shares the lives and community connections with additional side stories Tess and Tony grow in their relationship, dog training and adoptions continue, and BFF Bree and brother Mike find out it's not easy to have the wedding of everyone’s dreams. Although newbies can easily join the series here, it has been compelling to follow the evolution of relationships and especially the mystery surrounding Tess’s father as they slowly unfolding throughout the books. However, I always want more about the mysteries and murder that Kathi creates. She often summarizes important phone calls or conversations or computer searches after the fact instead of real time, and when a mystery started in the past, she does not employ flashbacks that I'd find engaging. But it's realism she captures! I still am totally entertained.
  • Old love, new love, different sorts of love and relationships, all play a role in this, Kathi Daley's 100th novel. It would not be a Kathi Daley story without great characters and interesting relationships, including some adorable animals.
From all the stress involved with wedding planning, to an arranged rendezvous sixty years in the past that did not materialize, yet annually hope remains, to mysterious family ties, this book will keep you guessing. How will it tie together? Who else has secrets and answers?
Of course it is not a cozy mystery without murder and intrigue. Life and death play their roles and make us all worry.
You will not be disappointed. Even when some answers that have kept us curious since the first book are revealed, we are not finished with the secrets and consequences.

The Unvaccinated Child A Treatment Guide for Parents and Caregivers Eli Camp Nd Dhanp Judith Thompson Nd Lac Fabno Judith Boice Books Reviews

  • I really loved this book. My daughter is 5 months and we haven’t vaccinated her. At first we were planning to on an alternative schedule but recent research, documentaries and books have made us second guess that. I now feel not only comfortable with our decision not to vaccinate, but confident that we are making the right choice.
  • Fabulous information!! It has completely transformed the health of our whole family!! I have tried the remedies and protocols and they WORK! Natural healing takes time, your body NEEDS time!! Learn to let your childs body heal, and how best to support their systems! The negative reviews on here are CLEARLY trolls. My family is living breathing, unmediated proof that natural healing works.
  • This book offers a clear pathway to wellness for parents who are unwilling to subject their children to the toxic vaccines offered to them by a science-for-profit, science-for-hire medical and pharmaceutical industry. To date, no comprehensive study has been done comparing the health care outcomes of vaccinated children to unvaccinated children. This study is an absolute necessity, and should be done now, and done free of influence by the medical/pharmaceutical industries who are in business to sell pharmaceutical products. This study would answer meany questions raised in the current debate over vaccine safety. But available information, from sources not corrupted by their connection to the vaccine industry, show that the more vaccines given to children, the worse are their health care outcomes. Conversely, the unvaccinated child, given the same conditions and environment, is far far healthier, brighter, more adept at learning, and freer from learning disabilities and auto-immune diseases which plague the vaccinated population. This is an excellent, helpful book.
Ellen Rixford...Board Member and Trustee of the Foundation for the Advancement in Cancer Therapies
  • Excellent book for every parent and family member who will care for babies and young children. Explanations and specifics details on what to look for and how to manage infections is well described. Will be making this my new baby gift for new parents. I knew there were answers and education besides just giving vaccines that do more harm than the infection and I found it. Parents need not be afraid but educated when doing the most important job of their lives. Education is key and this does a great job.
  • I'm a nurse and have wanted to try some holistic remedies for myself and my kids. I actually learned a lot from this book! I think its an awesome resource, whether you vaccinate or not. There is a lot of information about how to support the immune system with common things around the home (like making your own bone broth, herbs, essential oils). For a lot of these illnesses, conventional medicine is lacking. I love that this helps give straightforward advice and homeopathic remedies that are easy to understand and follow. Throughout the book, it recommends working alongside a physician, so I don't get the negative reviews.
  • I've only had this book for a few days but it is already becoming a valuable asset. Whether you choose to vaccinate or not, this is a very practical book to help with common illness and supporting the immune system.

I love that the recipes are easy to follow and breaks down illness and natural treatments. The only thing that I would improve is to better link remedies to which illnesses each is good for in the recipe section.

Overall I'm very happy with my purchase. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
  • Wow! Just wow! I was mailed a signed copy of this book by Dr. Camp and I have to tell you, this is a very thorough guide on how to treat your child should he or she get sick. It starts out with an overview of a number of natural therapies and how they are used, and then moves into natural treatment protocols for every infection there is a vaccine for. There is no need whatsoever for vaccines (and there never was - read Dr. Humphries' book Dissolving Illusions to understand the story of vaccination and how we have been lied to about safety and efficacy) because at the end of the day, what "protects" a child from an infection is a strong and robust immune system. This book gives clear guidance on how to do exactly that, but with natural therapies, not toxic injections that suppress immune function. Even if your child is vaccinated, this book is for you. And if your child is unvaccinated, get this book to have peace of mind that no matter when or how your child gets sick - from minor to major - you will have an excellent treatment resource guide written by two experienced doctors to guide you through the healing process. This book is much cheaper than a doctor's visit! Buy it now so you'll have it ready to go if/when your child gets sick!!! DISSOLVING ILLUSIONS Dissolving Illusions Disease, Vaccines, and The Forgotten History
  • very informative about diseases that might afflict any child and great resource about natural remedies including different teas and healing properties of some plants/herbs/fruits.

Social Engineering The Science of Human Hacking reveals the craftier side of the hacker's repertoire - why hack into something when you could just ask for access? Undetectable by firewalls and antivirus software, social engineering relies on human fault to gain access to sensitive spaces; in this book, renowned expert Christopher Hadnagy explains the most commonly used techniques that fool even the most robust security personnel and reveals how these techniques have been used in the past.

The way that we make decisions as humans affects everything from our emotions to our security. Hackers, since the beginning of time, have figured out ways to exploit that decision making process and get you to take an action not in your best interest. Networks and systems can be hacked, but they can also be protected; when the "system" in question is a human being, there is no software to fall back on, no hardware upgrade, no code that can lock information down indefinitely. Human nature and emotion is the secret weapon of the malicious social engineering, and this book reveals how to recognize, predict, and prevent this type of manipulation by taking you inside the social engineer's bag of tricks.

"The marvellous Admiral Hadnagy has done it again. If you haven't had a chance to view this author's other books, search for them immediately after purchasing this book. Whether you are looking to upgrade your knowledge of social engineering, trying to get free burgers, or pick up chicks (that's a joke, but seriously it's an option) this is the book for which you've been searching. Chris promises and delivers on identifying security issues (and yes, some policies to mitigate them), non-verbal communion techniques, and the psychology behind each interaction. Grab this book while you have the chance - the author is a living legend."

Social Engineering Second Edition The Science of Human Hacking Audible Audio Edition Christopher Hadnagy Gildan Media Books Reviews

  • You don't even need to be interested in social engineering to benefit from (and enjoy reading) this book. In fact, about two thirds of it is devoted to building rapport, trust and influence no matter where you find yourself or what you're trying to do. The author presents the scientific principles at just the right level and then reinforces them with an abundance of anecdotes, most of which are pretty amusing. I especially liked that he includes personal stories of both successes and failures. The result is a remarkably good read that is both informative and enjoyable. If you are security professional or simply concerned about your own security, then you really should read this book. For everyone else, chapters 2-8 will likely help you improve some aspect of your social skills.
  • This updated edition to Christopher Hadnagy’s classic has stayed with the times. While the tools have changed, the underlying method of OSINT remains the same. Chris provides an overview of the steps every social engineer takes to extract information out of you and ultimately deceive you. He does provide some tools that you can use, but as he states, technology constantly advances so you have to be mindful that what might have worked a year ago may not work again today.

My one complaint for this book is that the images are low resolution and hard to make out. They’re all in black and white, which makes it difficult to spot irregularities for his many exercises.

Still, this is a great edition that managed to keep up with the pace of the internet’s changes and will keep you up to date on the world of social engineering.
  • The marvellous Admiral Hadnagy has done it again. Grab this book while you have the chance - the author is a living legend.
  • Just like everything else produced by Mr. Hadnagy, this book is exceptional. I have had the pleasure of attending his training in person, and you can’t find a more genuine instructor. His contributions to the security industry ere enormous and this book is just another item in that list. Bravo, sir.
  • One of the best boons I have read in my life. Very instructive, practical, referencial and yet includes experiences which makes clear the points Hadnagy wants you to understand. Hadnagy really is an enthusiast, and you will be amused on how many tools you will learn with his book.
  • Great book and very interesting. The author points out many things and really rights them up with stories of his personal experiences.
  • Excelente libro 100% recomendado, he seguido varios de sus libros y cada uno de ellos me sorprende mas lo vulnerable que somos los humanos.
  • There is a story about Harry Houdini, that he once failed to escape from a jail cell, even though the door was unlocked. The reason he stayed trapped is that he only knew how to get out of locked doors. In the world of technology, there are indeed many locked doors, and social engineers know how to open them.

In the domain of social engineering, Christopher Hadnagy is one of the best. I’ve reviewed other books of his here, namely Social Engineering The Art of Human Hacking, Unmasking the Social Engineer The Human Element of Security, and Phishing Dark Waters The Offensive and Defensive Sides of Malicious Emails. In Social Engineering The Science of Human Hacking, Hadnagy continues his exploration into the world of social engineering.

In this book as the title implies, Hadnagy move the topics from social engineering as to art, to that of a science. The goal of a social engineer is not that far from being a con man. Where con stems from the word confidence. Be it a Three-card Monte scammer at Times Square, or a social engineer dressed-up a termite inspector; their goal is the same, to win your confidence.

Hadnagy quotes extensively from Dr. Paul Ekman, an American psychologist who specializes in the study of emotions and their relation to facial and body expressions. By mastering these expressions, the social engineer can make their attacks much more successful.

Besides Ekman, the book references the work of other psychologists including Dr. Ellen Langer, professor of psychology at Harvard University whose expertise is in the illusion of control and decision-making, neuroeconomist Dr. Paui Zak, whose work in neuroeconomist, which is the study of decision making, and more. By building on these sciences, the social engineer can be devastating effective in their attacks.

As good as the science is, it is not perfect. And as good a social engineer Hadnagy is, he fails at times. What is unique about the book is that he does not shy away from sharing those mistakes with the reader. While there are plenty of success stories in the book, he also includes disaster stories where he failed miserably. In the movies the social engineer never errs. But are in that case does not imitate life.

Becoming a highly effective social engineer is something that takes time to master. For those looking to master the topic, Christopher Hadnagy is a great person to learn from and Social Engineering The Science of Human Hacking is a great resource to take you there.

iPod The Missing Manual J D Biersdorfer David Pogue 9781449312855 Books Reviews

  • This review is for the 10th edition and was written in July 2012.

I can't improve much on the excellent review by Hartley J. Jackson, but I can add one bit of information If you don't own an iPod yet and can't decide which model is best for you, buy this book first.

This book covers the differences among the various iPod versions very well. There is an overview of each model in chapter 1, as well as instructions on how to accomplish each task with each specific model. Reading about how each model works will give you a better understanding of how well a particular model will work for YOU.

There is also an entire chapter on iTunes. That chapter describes how to do the various tasks that you will want to use iTunes for. The authors explain how to change a song's file format, how to edit the information that is stored with each song or album, how to add album art to the albums you have added to the iTunes library, and how to do other common and uncommon tasks. They also have extra tidbits of information that may not be obvious to a user, especially a first-time user. They reassure you, for example, that if you delete a song from a playlist the song is not deleted from your computer and can still be accessed in your music library.

I use my iPod Classic mostly for listening to audio books from Audible.com. These files can often be annoying to navigate if you come back to them after using the iPod for music. Depending on the file, it's often time consuming to fast forward to wherever you left off in the story. On page 45 of this book, I read that I can press the center button on my Classic, and then use the click wheel to scroll rapidly through a file. This information was worth the price of the entire book for me.

If you have an iPod, any iPod, you should get this book.
  • I received the book ahead of the estimated date of arrival. I'm very happy with the condition of the book. I loved this book as it s written in a very simple way to understand. I wasted so much money buying books like teach yourself Visually, until I can not
follow their instruction , as there's missing link to their instruction. since I found the Missing Manuals on the Library, instead of
buying other books if I need to, I buy Missing Manual of that book. thanks to all writers of Missing Manuals especially to Mr. David
    Pogue & J.D. Biersdorfer.
  • very informative, even i understood it! it led me step by step on how to buy songs, how to sync, lots of things i'd never heard of.
  • It was helpful for my iPod touch. Now I know some thing that I never new before it helped me a lot. I'm being honest
  • I recommend iPod The Missing Manual, Tenth Edition to get the most out of your iPod and certainly to get the most out of your iPod Touch. I like its friendly conversational writing. Its organization, contents table, and index make it is easy to quickly find the information you want, especially in the Ebook with hyperlinks from the contents to the page.

I enjoyed studying iPod The Missing Manual, Tenth Edition with my iPod or iPod Touch in hand, and found the instructions clear and easy to follow. The way the chunks of information are organized and presented, mostly in a page at a time, makes it easy to explore and absorb. I like the Ebook open on my iPad while I explore with my iPod Touch or iPod. Certainly buy the book if you do not have an iPad or computer or prefer to read a "real book."

Just look at the table of contents! You will be amazed at everything the book covers from music, to apps, to iCloud. It even describes to how to change languages and how to multitask on your Touch. I will practice multitasking until I don't have to stop to recall or look up how to do it.

I have only one suggestion that might improve the book. The instructions for making a genius playlist on the Touch and Nano worked, but the Touch instructions referred me to "playback controls (Chapter 3)." It would have been faster to do if it had referred me to, "playback controls (Multitask on Your Touch in Chapter 3)."

Everything I had a reason to try in the iPod The Missing Manual, Tenth Edition worked including this one

"If an app is stuck onscreen, hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the red "power off" slider appears. Let go of the Sleep/Wake and hold down the home button until the app closes--and you're back home. " I had occasion to use it, and of course like all the other things I tried, it worked.

Enjoy iPod The Missing Manual, Tenth Edition

Dump and Chase Nashville Assassins Next Generation Book 1 edition by Toni Aleo Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

  • Dump & Chase did not disappoint. I had been waiting on the children to start growing up. I knew Shelli Adler has loved Aiden Brooks from the time she was 11 years old but him being 6/7 years older didn’t think the same way. She first caught his eye about 16 years old and he knew that she was still too young to make any moves. When they did meet up again Aiden didn’t recognize her but she knew who he was. Let the story begin.

Aiden had a fear of totally falling in love afraid he would be heart broken like his mom suffered when he was little and it wasn’t until his father Lucas Brooks came back in the picture his world felt right. And he watched his parents love blossom but never forgetting his mother’s tears throughout the years.

Shelli having always loved Aiden never wavered in her feelings. They got together but he was having issues with love he wasn’t sure if what he was feeling was love or not. They did get it worked out and Ms Aleo did a wonderful job writing their story. It kept my attention from beginning to end and had me cheering for them through the whole book.

I highly recommend this book you won’t be disappointed but you don’t have to read the Assassins series but it totally helps to understand some of the conversations the parents had with them.
The book of Aiden and Shelli did not disappoint. The Next Generation is well worth the read.
  • For those of us who have been reading Toni Aleo's Assassins series from the beginning, this is a book that you are going to instantly love and for those who might be picking her book up for the first time, you'll get to know some of Toni's most loved characters in the Adler and Brooks families.

Dump and Chase is the story of Shea and Elli Adler's oldest daughter, Shelli, and Lucas and Fallon Brooks' eldest son, Aiden. Shelli has been crushing on Aiden since she was eleven years old and as she's gotten older her feelings haven't waned in the least. The only problem is Aiden didn't pay her any mind back in the day. She wanted him to really see her and he never did. Now though, it may be a very different story after they meet up at a party in New York and hook up. The only thing is once again he doesn't really see her. He doesn't even recognize her.

Shelli has decided she's ready to leave Broadway and so she's made the decision to head back home to Nashville and after the party she's even happier to be heading that way. As irony would have it, Aiden has been traded to his hometown hockey team, the Assassins, which has always been his dream and now it's coming true.

With the two of them back in the same town, it's inevitable their paths are going to cross again and as they are around one another more and more, you can see that there is definitely a connection between them. With many ups and downs, misunderstandings and some unwanted, and unsolicited advice from their families, these two attempt to figure out if there is something between them. With sparks flying it's hard to believe there isn't!

I absolutely loved this book and all of the people in it. It was great to see our favorites from the original Assassins series and Shelli has grown up to be a strong, fierce woman and Aiden has become the hockey player he wanted to be and he's working on becoming the man he wants to be. I'm excited to see where this next generation takes us in this series!
  • “I’m never sleeping with anyone else unless I see their ID.” – Aiden Brooks

Shelli Adler has Been in love with Aiden Brooks since she was a little girl, however with their age difference, she didn’t think Aiden would ever reciprocate that love. On Shelli’s last night in New York, Aiden finally gives her the time of day, the only problem is, he doesn’t actually know who she is. As luck would have it, the two are both headed back to Nashville since Aiden was traded to the Nashville Assassins, the team he has dreamed of playing for all of his life. When Aiden realizes that Shelli was the girl from New York the drama hits the fan. As the two try and navigate their way through this budding relationship, they worry about what their families will think. All bets are off when their parents find out, but the question still remains, can Aiden be who Shelli needs and let go of insecurities, or will he lose her forever?

First and foremost, I have been impatiently waiting for Shelli and Aiden for many years. Pretty much since Shelli was writing Shelli Brooks in her notebooks. That’s how long I’ve been waiting. With much anticipation, I stopped in the middle of the book I was reading as soon as this ARC dropped on my kindle. And I’ll be honest with you, I was scared to read this book. I was scared that I had built the love story between these two up in my head, and therefore how could it ever live up to my expectations. I don’t even know why I thought that. Toni delivered, what I feel, is one of her best books to date. The chemistry between Aiden and Shelli jumped off the pages and left me turning the pages begging for more. I will also say, that Shea and Lucas jumped up the ladder in my favorites because of this book as well. The secondary characters played such an integral part of this book, and I was super excited that we got to catch up with everybody in the Adler and Brooks clans.

First published over 40 years ago, this was the first text on the identification of organic compounds using spectroscopy. This text is now considered to be a classic. This text presents a unified approach to the structure determination of organic compounds based largely on mass spectrometry, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and multinuclear and multidimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The key strength of this text is the extensive set of practice and real-data problems (in Chapters 7 and 8). Even professional chemists use these spectra as reference data. Spectrometric Identification of Organic Compounds is written by and for organic chemists, and emphasizes the synergistic effect resulting from the interplay of the spectra. This book is characterized by its problem-solving approach with extensive reference charts and tables.

The 8th edition of this text maintains its student-friendly writing style - wording throughout has been updated for consistency and to be more reflective of modern usage and methods. Chapter 3 on proton NMR spectroscopy has been overhauled and updated. Also, new information on polymers and phosphorus functional groups has been added to Chapter 2 on IR spectroscopy.

Spectrometric Identification of Organic Compounds Robert M Silverstein Francis X Webster David J Kiemle David L Bryce Books Reviews

  • I have read this book cover to cover at three different points over the years, and I must say that this is a highly recommended resource for anyone needing a primer in spectroscopic techniques. This book has been a faithful friend since my undergrad years and now well into my seasoned academic career. Sure there are other books, but it is hard to find such a concise yet reasonably comprehensive resource which holds your hand when navigating a plethora of techniques used for organic molecular structure determination. It is a great reference for day-to-day analysis in the lab and conveys complex concepts in rather simple terms. The best part is the problem set, which really makes you work your brain and tremendously help in absorbing those concepts.

Ok, enough about the book - the seller is an absolute pleasure to deal with as well. The book is packed carefully and it arrived unscathed through the normal postal service.

Both the book and the seller are highly recommended
  • This book is required for my Organic Spectroscopy class. Supposedly, another version of this book has the answer key for the practice problems in it. THIS VERSION DOES NOT HAVE THE ANSWERS TO PRACTICE PROBLEMS IN IT. I remember looking at an almost identical "Student Version" of the book on too; not sure if the answers are in that one or not, but other than the words "Student version", I couldn't figure out the difference between these two. I haven't seen the other one, so I can't say. The only downside is the difference between the versions of the Eight edition not being clear.

Other than that, I really like the textbook so far. It is short and easy to understand. I've only been working with the Mass Spec chapter so far, but it provides a lot of good information on interpreting EI spectra, and some on CI spectra as well.
  • badly written and poorly organized. This is just another hastily thrown together book written by a professor to earn some extra money. Do yourself a favor and buy "Introduction to Spectroscopy" by Daniel L. Pavia. It has it's flaws but it head and shoulders above this book.

  • A fine book for undergraduate structure determination of organic chemicals using spectroscopic data. Very affordable price. Very fast shipping and delivery.
  • The text is dense and poorly explained, but the book is worth the money for the end of chapter problems and chapters 7-8.
  • My favorite book that I've purchased so far in grad school. (Medicinal Chemistry, 2nd year) 2D NMR is so incredibly helpful for small molecule elucidation. Now, any time someone in my lab needs 2D NMR, they ask me for help!
  • great service, fast delivery, product exactly as advertised, thanks, theboobooman
  • I used this book for a class and then kept it because it's such a great reference. I learned a great deal just reading the book, but the practice problems are great. You can't expect to be a whiz just from reading the book, and the practice problems really help illustrate the points they outline in the text.

Hoot Carl Hiaasen 9780440419396 Books Reviews

  • * SPOILER * I discuss part of the book in this review. Don’t keep reading if you don’t want to know more.

I liked most of the story but I guess I’m tired of the stereotype of the big dumb jocks beating up the little nerdy kid story line. And not sure how I feel about Roy setting up Dana so that he goes to juvie. I don’t want my kids reading this for that reason. Maybe I’m just feeling extra sensitive about kids who have been born into crappy families but I felt bad for Dana. It made it hard for me to enjoy the rest of the story knowing Roy set him up. Not that Dana’s behavior was exemplary at all but setting him up where he ends up at juvenile detention seemed a bit extreme.
It was also confusing to me that Roy would try to find a way for his head and heart to come together to get help for the owls but didn’t use the same logic when dealing with Dana. And somehow his parents never found out about it either... hmmm. Honestly, I kept expecting him to tell his parents what he knew about Dana and have them help him intervene somehow to make it better. He told them about Beatrice’s situation so why not Dana’s? Total disconnect for me.
And maybe there was no other way but I felt like it was a missed opportunity for Roy and his parents to not have that conversation together.
Otherwise I liked the book. I really enjoyed the first half of the book a lot. But the second half was a let down for me.
  • Originally i picked up "Razor Girl" and thoroughly enjoyed it. So I ordered his four best sellers.
I should have been a bit more diligent. The four I ordered [SCAT, CHOMP, HOOT and FLUSH] are all "young adult books".
I have now read all four and they were very good. I am now passing them on to my grand children. Good plots and characters. Great messages and all very good reads.
  • It’s YA, but it’s written by Carl Hiaasen, so it’s a great story. Memorable characters, good story line, humor, and delightful to read/listen to. Reminds me of some of Dave Berry’s books. I’m in my 70’s, so am not a young adult, but this book should appeal to everyone.
  • What a fun book. Great literature for avid upper elementary and middle school readers. Even a fun and quick read for adults. Well written mystery with plenty of positive messages for young people. Highly recommend this book.
  • This is a sweet book. My heart bleeds for little Mullet Hands and for all the kids with useless parents. The contrast between Roy's life filled with loving events and two parents who adore him sharply contrasts with the lives of the bullies that he faces. Kids joining together to save little burrowing owls provides a quick summation after a glance into complicated lives of these Florida kids. Unfortunately, the kids warped by their strange parents remain unchanged by anything or anyone and go on to continue as older versions of themselves.
  • My 10 year old daughter loves this book so much she has read it countless times. There are some themes for discussing with your kiddo (homelessness of teenage boy and abusive relationships), but the book was a great read. I also liked that it brought awareness to taking care of nature and respecting endangered species. Great buy.
  • Excellent audio book read by Chad Lowe, Rob's brother. He does a great job of adding character to the reading. I used this in my 6th grade class and they enjoyed it. Overall, well worth the price.
  • Highly recommend these books for tweens. We have all that he wrote for kids, hoping for more. There might be minor cuss words-depends on how you feel. I read these aloud to my son, we both enjoy them. It's always interesting to read books based on areas you are familiar with.
