"I'm a very happy and delighted owner of the Simple Happy Kitchen guide. I'm not a noob to being vegan as I've been eating a plant-based diet for 10 years, my husband has been vegan for 25 years and my son has been vegan since birth. That being said, it can be a slog to figure out where to get all the nutrients you need to be healthy, and when we moved from the US to Japan we had to re-think our food options and started to cook a lot more. Every Sunday when I do meal planning I reference the guide for food options that cover all the vitamins and minerals my family requires. The Grocery Guide is on my fridge and I review it when I get home from picking up vegetables and fruit to make sure I'm storing them correctly. When vegan-curious friends ask me for advice on where to start I send them the link to the Simply Happy Kitchen website. I learned about fermentation and how to soak and sprout beans, legumes and nuts. I'm looking forward to the next book which I hope will include more recipes and advanced techniques!"

  • Love the infographics, helpful tips, adorable animations and kitchen hacks. A must-have for anyone interested in a plant-based lifestyle!
  • I got Simple Happy Kitchen about six months ago, and really appreciate the unique role that it plays among my cookbooks. It is not, as the description points out, a cookbook in the usual sense. It's more like a replacement for your parents, if your parents weren't vegan.

One usually learns how to cook from one's parents. They share their special tips as well as general cooking technique. How to handle hot pots and pans, how to peel vegetables, how to keep the food from sticking to the pot pr pan, all that. Recipes assume you know a number of these things already (how to cut in a particular way, for example). If you don't, it can be hard to follow them.

One also learns what to eat between meals if one gets hungry, or how to make meals so simple or common that there is no real recipe (how to make a regular, everyday, non-gourmet sandwich, for example), and how to compose meals, from one's parents. If they didn't eat a plant-based diet, then this book is the gap-filler for that. It will teach you how to sprout 10-15 kinds of beans, how to soak and cook 10-15 kinds of beans and lentils, a list of sandwich spreads and how to make them (yes, including hummus, but including THE trick for super-smooth and creamy hummus, but a bunch of others as well) It will give you a vegan plate model to follow, as well as suggestions for composing meals for athletes, high-iron, and high-calcium diets. If you have kids, the cute illustrations helps engage preschoolers (the only test group I have). (My preschooler gets the book to just flip through sometimes.)

The print is high-quality, the binding is good, and the covers are thick and sturdy. This is book meant to keep for a long time. Highly recommended as a "base" for plant-based cooking!
  • I got this book thinking it would be a handy and beautifully designed guide to vegetables and other plants within my kitchen. Turns out, it's a guide on how to become vegan, and although it was never my intention, I still found some interesting information in there, presented in a nice way.

If you are already vegan or aiming to become, it's a really nice way to get information. If you're just interested in growing how plant-based your life is without going full-on vegan, not all the book might be relevant to you.

  • A great book which covers the health, environmental, and animal welfare aspects of vegan and non-vegan diets in a simple and adorably illustrated way. I especially appreciate the fact that the creator cited a lot of the data being presented from credible sources, as it is important that we are educated with accurate information.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a introduction to veganism, not only for your health, but for our planet and the animals.
  • This book is not only stuffed with information in digestible chunks, but it’s also packed with the cutest colorful illustrations. It even covers pregnancy and has a few recipes in it, too. The pages are thick and great quality. Can’t recommend this book enough!
  • I received this book in perfect condition and on time.
I thought it would be mostly recipes, but it's family friendly information and just a couple simple recipes.

I love it and can't wait to share it with my daughter once she's old enough.
  • Simple Happy Kitchen is a beautifully illustrated, powerful book which details the connections between health/diet/environment/animal welfare. It presents the information in a fun and engaging way even a child can enjoy. We've already bought at least 10 copies to gift to friends.
