Taking Control of Your Seizures Workbook Treatments That Work 9780199335015 Medicine Health Science Books Reviews

  • I have read an earlier version of this book. Under the guidance of Donna Andrews and working with this book, I was able to drastically reduce the amount of seizures I had. I am now seizure free and take no medication. I learned how to identify each and every trigger to my seizures and learned how to prevent seizures by doing something different (and therefore avoid having a seizure). I can now even identify the feelings that could lead to a seizure and avoid having an attack. Just one example Unfortunately my house burned down in the Valley Fire in Lake County. While standing on the leftovers of my house, my whole life, loved antiques, books, clothes and so on, I could feel I was on emotional overwhelm and close to a seizure. I knew what to do. Working with this book and Donna had taught me well. I did not have a seizure, even though I felt it upcoming and was very close to it. I eve ended up comforting the man who held me while I cried. My emotions had triggered his trauma's as a fire fighter!
I recommend this book with all my heart. If you have seizures and desire to not have them dictate your life, like to learn how to reduce them without drugs, read this book! For me the work of Donna Andrews was the answer to my prayers. Having had epilepsy for many years herself, and endless seizures a day, Donna discovered how to overcome her seizure disorder. I highly respect what she has to bring to this world. To find out more google The Andrews/Reiter Epilepsy Research Program.

Here are some reviews I found online
"Years ago, Reiter and Andrews developed a multifaceted behavioral approach for the treatment of epilepsy, which was modified and appears to be particularly effective in the treatment of nonepileptic seizures. This Therapist Guide by LaFrance and Wincze and the accompanying Workbook, derived from the original Reiter and Andrews program are, together, a unique and sorely needed contribution. For the first time, there is a truly comprehensive outline for the behavioral management of epilepsy and nonepileptic seizures that should not only be valuable for the treatment of individual patients, but also serve as a basis for focused clinical research." --Jerome Engel, Jr., MD, PhD, Jonathan Sinay Distinguished Professor of Neurology, Neurobiology, and Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences, and Director, Seizure Disorder Center, David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA

"Overall, Taking Control of Your Seizures is an important update to the previous edition, as it is more broadly focused and acknowledges the limitations of traditional medical models. It should be highly recommended not just to patients, but also to their families and caregivers." --Allan Bernstein, MD, The Magazine of the Sonoma County Medical Association

"The core strength of the Workbook is that it represents the most comprehensively developed informed cognitive behavioral approach to epilepsy available and benefits from 30 years of experience providing epilepsy-specific counseling and use. It is delivered in a packaged step-by-step method that is 'turn-key' for an office practice... This book is unique and fills a space that is being filled in social media by anecdotal guidance from patients. This book is a major contribution to the field of clinical epilepsy care, providing a validated treatment method that can be administered by a variety of providers... It is a clinical tool appropriate for any healthcare provider who wants to help their patient obtain a higher state of wellness and develop a patient-centric care model focused on what matters most to patients themselves. I highly recommend this book to any healthcare providers treating patients with epilepsy or NES." --Epilepsy & Behavior
  • I presented to my counselor to try. The exercises in the workbook are very helpful to decrease the intensity of the psuedo-seizures I get daily. Highly suggest.
  • Anyone with a neurological disorder, FND, FMD, NEAD, NES, PNES needs this. Fabulous! This helped me so much and I'm much happier in my life.
  • This book has been fairly insightful although it is really geared toward adults rather that a teenager that has run into these types of issues. Teenagers have a different set of stressors and a totally different way to deal with them too.
